Anzac History Talk at Lithgow Library

To help commemorate Anzac Day, Lithgow Library Learning Centre will host special guest speaker John Low, who will present a history talk titled ‘Left Behind: Anzac War Horses of World War 1’  on Friday 28 April 2017 from 10.30 to 11.30am.

“During this period when we commemorate 100 years of the First World War, Lithgow City Council remembers with great respect, those who fought for our country,” said Lithgow City Council Mayor Stephen Lesslie. “I invite you to come to the Lithgow Library Learning Centre to consider the War from a different perspective.”

Almost 200,000 horses left Australia to carry the mounted troops or other roles. “Amid the stress and danger of the battlefield, a strong and profound bond was often formed between soldier and horse. They are remembered in a variety of memorials around both Australia and New Zealand,” said historian and researcher John Low. “By looking at the war horse experience we can view WWI from another angle, hopefully providing a few interesting insights that will prompt further thought and discussion”.

Bookings can be made to attend this free History Talk, which will include light refreshments, by contacting the Lithgow Library on 6352 9100.
