Library Storytime – Helping Children Discover a Love of Books and Reading

Lithgow Library Learning Centre is pleased to announce that Preschool Storytime programs have resumed at both Lithgow and Wallerawang libraries.

Storytime is great for encouraging early literacy and socialisation in preschool children. Rhymes, songs and stories encourage a love of language, and children also learn skills which they need when they go to school such as participation, sitting still and listening. It is also a great way for parents to meet other people with similar aged children.

Preschool Storytime is a free weekly program which runs for approximately 30 minutes. For more information on Storytime and other library programs head to the library website or find us on Facebook “Lithgow City Council Libraries”.

Wallerawang Storytime is at 10.30am each Tuesday and Lithgow Storytime 10.30am each Wednesday.

Author Talks Return Live to Lithgow Library

Join us for our first live Author Talk for 2021 with Meg Keneally, who will be talking about her books ‘Fled’ and ‘The Wreck’ on Monday 29 March  at 2:00pm.

During COVID closures Lithgow Library Learning Centre held online author talks in cooperation with NSW Public Libraries, and while these have proven to be very popular, the Library is very excited to be able to once again host a live event.

Meg Keneally worked as a public affairs officer, sub-editor, freelance feature writer, reporter, and talkback radio producer, before co-founding a financial service public relations company, which she then sold after having her first child. She is co-author with Tom Keneally of the first two books in The Monsarrat Series. Fled is her first solo novel and The Wreck her second.

Please note that COVID restrictions may necessitate the wearing of masks or alterations to this event and all participants must check in. Contact the Lithgow Library for more details on 63529100. Bookings are essential through Eventbrite at, or follow the links on the library website

Harmony Day Storytime at Lithgow Library

The message of Harmony Day is ‘everyone belongs’  and Lithgow Library would like to invite everyone to a special multicultural Harmony Day Storytime on Wednesday 24 March 2021.

Diversity is what makes Australia a great place to live and Harmony Day is a celebration of our cultural diversity – a day of cultural respect for everyone who calls Australia home.

The Day aims to engage people to participate in their community, respect cultural and religious diversity and foster sense of belonging for everyone and follows on from Lithgow City Council’s – ‘Rice of the World’ event.

Participants at the Harmony Day Storytime will enjoy some multicultural stories, fun songs and a great craft activity. Storytime is an early literacy program aimed at preschoolers and their families. This is a free event and all are welcome, so why not join in on Wednesday 24 March 2021 from 10.30am.
