Throughout Dementia Action Week from Monday 19 to Sunday 25 September 2022, Lithgow Library will be demonstrating the Tovertafel, a piece of innovate technology designed to bring smiles to the faces of people with dementia or cognitive challenges and the people who care for them.
The Tovertafel (Magic Table) uses interactive light technology to project a series of games and activities onto a table, with participants interacting through movement to ‘play’ the games. The games are specifically designed to improve the quality of life for people with cognitive challenges.
Not only are the games fun but they promote social interaction, increase positive emotions, and encourage movement and conversation. The games are designed to help people live well with dementia. With Tovertafel there is no cultural or language barrier, there is only a connection to others.
Lithgow Library received a Reducing Social Isolation grant to purchase the Tovertafel in 2021 and many community members are already finding it beneficial. Lithgow Library would like more people to be aware of the Tovertafel’s benefits and will be hosting a free morning tea and demonstration on Tuesday 20 September from 10.30am.
No bookings are necessary and demonstrations will also be available at anytime outside of the morning tea. For more information on the Tovertafel head to the library webpage at library.lithgow.com or contact the library on 6352 9100.
