Lithgow Library invites the community to come along on Saturday 28th of September 2024 for a Heritage Week speaker event at the Lithgow Library from 10.30am. Neil Berecry-Brown is currently doing research into the life and times of Andrew Brown and will talk about him and his involvement with the Cooerwull Academy.
The 200th anniversary of Brown’s first land grant at Bowenfels, is an opportune time to tell the story of Andrew Brown, Scottish pioneer pastoralist, philanthropist and industrialist. His journey from Tibbermore, Scotland, to Bowenfels NSW, is a small step in a larger saga of service to Australian society. There is currently a display of photographs and memorabilia in the library based around Andrew Brown’s contribution to the Lithgow community and his businesses.
Neil Berecry-Brown is currently researching the life and times of Andrew Brown with particular emphasis on Cooerwull Academy, founded in 1882, and the Cooerwullian legacy. “The moving finger writes ….”, but there are more lines to write, and stories to tell; anecdotes and details from his diaries give greater insight into his character, and his significance in the present era.
While you are in the library don’t forget to join up if you aren’t a member. Membership is free and is available to residents of any age.
