On Wednesday 5 July at 10.30am, Lithgow City Council Library is excited to be celebrating NAIDOC week with a special Storytime hosted by Lithgow and District Wiradjuri Corporation, Barrinang.

NAIDOC week is important because it invites people to celebrate the history, culture, and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. NAIDOC is celebrated not only in Indigenous communities, but by Australians all over the country and overseas.

This year’s NAIDOC Week theme is “For our elders” to reflect the important role that elders play in the lives of indigenous Australians.

Lithgow Library will be celebrating and showing its appreciation through a magpie themed Storytime presented by representatives from Barrinang. There will be traditional songs, music including different bird calls and what they represent, a special story, dancing, craft, and a delicious morning tea supplied by Barrinang.

Lithgow Library is excited and appreciative of Barrinang for visiting the library to host this event. The Library would love as many people as possible to attend to help celebrate and acknowledge the traditional custodians of this land and show respect to elders, past, present, and emerging.

This event will be FREE and no bookings are required. Please contact Lithgow Library if you have any further questions or enquiries on 6352 9100.
