Providing access to information from around the world is one of the key services that libraries provide. Now access to global news just got easier at Lithgow City Council libraries with a new subscription to Global Newsbank.

Library members will have FREE access to over 7,500 global news sources, covering over 200 countries and territories including many in the local area. Most sources are text based and fully searchable including back issues, with some major papers having image-based access. Global news is available in native languages but can also be read in English using Google Translate.

Newsbank provides a worldwide perspective on current and past news events. It is also a great searchable resource for both researchers and students. Some of the local papers available in text only format include the Lithgow Mercury, Western Advocate and Blue Mountains Gazette. Major Sydney newspapers available daily in both image and text format include the Sydney Morning Herald, Daily Telegraph and The Australian.

For more information on this excellent resource contact the Lithgow Library on 6352 9100. Membership of the library is free and only takes a few minutes, so why not pop into your local branch in Lithgow, Portland, or Wallerawang, sign up and find out about all the other great free resources available.

Current members can head directly to the library website at library.lithgow.com  click the eresources link and find Newsbank. Login with your library card number.
